Discussion

Michael Nesbit (Unlicensed) reviewed training and data set documentation. All domain experts should think about how to document and train users to understnad their data.  Bruce Miller mentioned that ETS is exploring data catalog tools, informatica, Erwin.

Mark Norstedt reviewed progress POC on the data auditing and parsing the datamashup file to get the data set details.  It is not necessary to get everything from the file. Anything can help.  He is focusing on the Power BI tables and columns. Needs to explore how the file changes when it is created using a dataflow vs a direct query to the database. Eric Johnstone mentioned that he can work with Mark Norstedt to integrate DLP policies into the data set.

 Action Items

  1. Ann Crawford (Unlicensed) create a data set that is built from data flows.
  2. Eric Johnstone work with Mark Norstedt on a POC of appying DLP policies to the power bi data sets.

Action Items from 9/12

  1. Eric Johnstone work with Joseph Chanson to brand the PBI Login from Microsoft brand to UCSB brand - this has changed to allow Eric to get direct access and work with Allen Biehle
  2. Ann Crawford (Unlicensed) shared google sheet with Joshua Munsch (Unlicensed) and Mark Norstedt  - done. We reviewed the JSON this is still a work in progress.
  3. Mark Norstedt and Joshua Munsch (Unlicensed) create a separate data sets for the PBI reports with naming convention dataset_<somename> and document in the data sheet
