eGrades Adding a Proxy to a Course
Instructors and Grading Coordinators
Proxy Capabilities and Limitations
Proxy users can be assigned to a course to help instructors input grades before the quarter's grade deadline occurs. They will be allowed to view the course that they are assigned to, enter grades, and mark the course 'Ready for Instructor Review.' They have the same access as TAs. Proxies and TAs do not have the ability to 'Submit Grades' or 'Change Grades' for instructors after the grade deadline has passed.
Instructors - Adding a proxy through eGrades
Instructors in-charge have the capability to designate proxy users in eGrades to assist with grade entry for the courses that they are teaching and have access to. To do this, they can:
Open eGrades
Click on the 'Proxy Administration' tab along the top toolbar
Click on 'View/Edit' next to an existing proxy below, or enter all or part of the name of the individual into the 'Search' field
'Add' a new proxy
Department Grading Coordinators - Adding a proxy through eGrades
The department Grading Coordinator can log into eGrades and click on the 'Proxy Administration' tab.
Then they can search for the employee by ensuring that the correct quarter is displayed in the drop down menu, inputting the instructors first and last name, and clicking on the 'Search' button.
The employee can then be selected by clicking on the 'add' link to the right of their name.
Select 'A course' from the 'Assign to' drop down menu, enter the course or section enroll code, and click the 'Add' button. The user will then be assigned as a proxy and their information will be confirmed in the table below.
Department Grading Coordinators - Adding a proxy through STAR
Under the correct enroll code for the section, the department can enter the employee (generally a TA) with an appropriate function code. (2 = not in charge but instructs students, or 4 = not in charge and no student instruction). Assigned TAs in STAR can view the class list but cannot edit grades in STAR.
The Individual in the department who is responsible for Academic Personnel and UC Path management should be able to provide employee IDs and/or birth dates for the purpose of establishing instructor records.
Lead TAs
Lead TAs can be assigned an instructor function code of 2 or 4, on the STAR C screen, under the main course enroll code instead of under one particular section. When the user logs into eGrades, they will be able to see all sections of the course as a TA for all underlying sections of the course.
For cross-listed sections
TAs can be listed twice under each section's enrollment code since it's supposed to be the "same" course, just listed under two separate departments (and enrollment codes). When adding a proxy to a course, the data comes from Campus Identity, who receives their information from UC Path. The Employment data received will include their home department and, from a systems' perspective, it really doesn't make any difference which department is displayed.
