Foundations for Success
Take time to learn. Learning this new role will take time, so focus on getting comfortable and understanding how things work, while taking advantage of training sessions, resources, and the expertise of your colleagues. In a quarterly academic setting, while things may be cyclical, each quarter brings different focuses and priorities.
Invest in relationships. Focus on getting to know people and building strong relationships, as these connections are essential for a supportive work environment. Take the initiative to engage with faculty, staff, and students. By offering your help and support within the scope of your job responsibilities, you foster trust and collaboration, which leads to better outcomes for everyone.
Don't be afraid to ask. No one expects you to know everything about how things work here right away. Never hesitate to seek clarification or additional information; asking questions demonstrates engagement and a desire to learn. If you’re unsure about something, it's better to ask and learn than to make avoidable mistakes—mistakes are valuable learning opportunities as well.
