To request that an interdisciplinary emphasis be awarded, Emphasis Faculty Directors must Interdisciplinary emphases and Certificate Programs are awarded when Faculty Directors inform the Graduate Division that a student has completed all the requirements for the emphasis or program. This section will explain the duties and expectations for each of the parties concerned, the normal processing procedure, and exception procedures:

  • Graduate Students

  • Faculty Directors or Staff Contacts

  • Graduate Division Academic Services Unit Staff (GDASU)

  • Office of the Registrar Staff

    • Emphases are awarded in conjunction with a doctoral (or master’s if applicable) degree upon completion.

  • Certificate in College and University Teaching (CCUT)

    • sends an email verification to the Graduate Division at gradacademics@graddiv.ucsb.edu confirming a student’s completion.

    • The Faculty Program Director must submit to the Graduate Division via email to gradacademics@graddiv.ucsb.edu a signed memo confirming the student completed the required coursework and internship.
