Discuss Gaucho Space API needsDiana Antova
  • Current DeptCourses API is from the IS&T Operational Data store
    • The data is refreshed 5 times a day for current quarter
    • The data is refreshed once a day for any past and future quarters
  • New APIs available from GauchoBlue:
  • API Improvements needed for Gaucho Space
    • Students - add pronouns - have been added to the API as of today
    • Curriculums - create an extended endpoint that includes the instructor ID.
    • classes/search, parameter quarter, department
    • How do we ensure we get all courses?
    • Second one - rosters 
  • Seth - how many times a day do we pull data?
    • 4 times a day, it takes about one hour of processing
    • Json takes a lot of time, it will double the time with the new APIs
    • Performance issue will be solved soon
    • The search function is not meeting their needs
    • Do we need a private API?
    • Can we synchronize the student data on login? 
      • Instructors need to se eteh roster before the students login
    • Brett - they pre-create course sites and instructors communicate and interact with students before they login.
    • They join sections together and create one gaucho space course. Concurrent courses are treated teh same
    • They load students separately, and then enroll them after
    • Then they synch the data with changes
  • Steven - do they do reporting?
    • There is a visualization tool in gaucho space where they look for issues
  • It seems better to continue to provide the deptcourses API instead of switching to the new ones.
  • Brett - what is instructor function 4?
    • Seth will confirm
  • Issue - exceptions when calling AIPs too fast
    • Diane will send the error to Steven
  • it will be best to rewrite it from Gaucho Blue to get refreshes for next quarter
  • It could stay this way for now.
